Nick told the board that the Louisiana Office of Community Development approved the district's application for reimbursement under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) disaster-recovery program for $496,103.72 in Hurricane Ida cost-share debris-removal activities. Nick said those funds will help support future levee work.
Separately, Nick provided a detailed account of mechanical problems at Pump Station 4 that reduced capacity: pump No. 2 developed impeller/bowl misalignment and was sent to Bowling Marine in New Orleans for repair; pump No. 1 experienced a gear-head failure with a quoted repair cost of about $51,675 and parts were ordered from Bolan; pump No. 3 later developed an anti-reverse mechanism issue. Staff moved a gear-head internally to restore service to three pumps. Nick said the work at Bowling Marine and parts shipments should return the station to full service by late February or early March, barring further complications.
Nick also described an electrical emergency at Pump Station 2: a conduit and line from Entergy melted after an electrical fault, and an Entergy pole caught fire. The district used generator power to keep pumps operating while waiting for Entergy to de-energize the line so firefighters could safely work; repairs were completed the following day.
These maintenance issues reduced available pumping capacity at a critical southern station; Nick said staff are monitoring conditions and will inform the board if emergency procurement is needed.
The board recorded the report; no formal vote was required for the informational update.
