Miss Mickus presented the district's FY 2024–25 differentiated-compensation implementation plan and said the state provided four distribution options. The board chose to allocate the funds to teachers classified as "highly effective," which the presenter said comprises roughly 50% of teachers in the district based on prior-year Compass scores.
Under the approved plan, eligible teachers will receive a one-time stipend of $578, to be paid Jan. 10, 2025. Eligibility is limited to employees who are active district employees as of Dec. 1, 2024. The stipend is explicitly one-time and "shall not be the basis for determining any permanent salary increase in the future," per the presentation. The cost of the stipend will be paid from the differentiated-compensation allocation provided by the Louisiana Department of Education.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the number of eligible teachers; the presenter estimated about half the district would qualify. The board moved to approve the distribution plan and the motion carried without recorded opposition.
Next steps: administration will implement payroll adjustments to distribute the stipend on Jan. 10, 2025 and apply required withholdings in accordance with payroll records.
