Presenters described a recent brand refresh and said the district—s website received roughly 800,000 page views in the last year. Staff credited increased video production for broader reach: they reported more than 285 video news stories produced and short-form content that has driven more than 1.3 million views across platforms. The district also plans a BCSD news hub on its website to pull local coverage and district-produced stories into one place.
Officials described staff changes meant to increase in-house content: a designated video-production specialist will work directly with schools to produce regular video updates, and a digital communications and public-relations specialist will focus on website ADA compliance. Staff said the new structure is intended to ensure consistent messaging and to make it easier for schools to share positive coverage.
Board members generally praised the presentation, with several saying the executive summaries and visuals helped them understand interdependencies across departments. One member asked why communications — which reports to the superintendent — briefed the operations committee; staff responded that prior boards had placed communications under operations and that the committee format provides broad exposure to the work. Several monitoring items were agreed to be moved to the consent agenda for the full board.
The committee did not take a separate vote on communications policy changes. The communications team said it will present additional detail at the board work session on Friday and will post relevant documents and succession planning materials to the district website.
