The Beaufort County Health Advisory Committee on July 29 elected teacher representative Amy Prior as chair, Constance Pope as vice chair and Cindy Coburn Smith as secretary in unanimous voice votes.
Melissa Boat, the committee liaison who opened the meeting at 5:02 p.m., called for nominations for the three officer posts and walked members through the chair’s duties in the bylaws, including agenda distribution and compliance with Robert’s Rules. After nominations, the committee recorded unanimous “aye” votes to approve the slate.
The leadership elections were procedural but significant for the committee’s work: Boat told members the chair will be the committee’s representative to the district board when necessary and will help set agendas and organize review work.
Members also unanimously approved a motion to add a public comment period to future agendas. Staff confirmed they will assist the secretary with posting minutes and fulfilling Freedom of Information Act responsibilities.
The committee set its next meeting for Aug. 19 at 5:00 p.m. and asked that staff distribute review packets in advance to give members 10–14 days to absorb material before substantive discussion.
The meeting adjourned by unanimous consent.
