The Beaufort County Board of Education executive committee approved its July agenda on July 1 after removing the meeting minutes from the agenda because the documents were not accessible to members.
Chair Christina Gwas asked that the minutes be removed, noting they "were not available in adequate time," and the committee moved and seconded approval of the agenda as amended. The committee approved the agenda by unanimous consent.
During the review of board business, members added a donation item to the agenda; the transcript records the donation amount as "$9,185 for costume and dance materials." That item was added to the board business list for future action; no approval of the donation itself was recorded at the July 1 agenda‑setting meeting.
Chair Gwas also reviewed other items expected to return to the board, including approval steps for the strategic plan before it goes to the State Department of Education and a proposed update to the district logo following community input. Under the superintendent’s report the agenda listed an update on graduation plans for the 2024–25 school year.
Gwas noted that the South Carolina Department of Education recently issued directives addressing cell phone limitations; she said the district’s discipline matrix will need to be updated and should come back to the board in August. The committee set its next agenda‑setting meeting for Thursday, July 25 at 5:00 p.m. via Zoom.
The meeting adjourned by unanimous consent at the end of the session.
