Dr. Lee, speaking in the superintendent’s report, said, "Our proposal is ready to go," and warned the policy would require adjustments to the district’s progressive discipline matrix and code of conduct. The committee placed the proposal on the June 25 agenda but acknowledged staff may alter it depending on state direction tied to funding.
Board member Ingrid said teachers and parents want clarity before the school year begins. "I think our teachers are gonna want something, some clarity on this before August 7th," she said, referencing the district’s August 7 student start date.
Committee members agreed the cell-phone policy should be coordinated with discipline changes and that staff should provide the proposal to board members a few days before the meeting so members can review it. Staff confirmed materials would be delivered to the board administrator by the Thursday before the meeting.
The committee did not vote on the policy at the June 17 meeting; the discussion concluded with direction to present the proposal and adjust it if the state issues binding guidance connected to funding.
