Quincy CVTE reports growth, industry partnerships and targets to align to updated DESE frameworks

Quincy’s Career Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) reported 1,360 students in Chapter 74 programs, 19 program pathways, increased nontraditional participation and plans to realign courses to updated DESE CVTE frameworks by June 2025.
The district’s CVTE director presented the 2024–25 CVTE program improvement plan, describing 19 competency-based pathways, industry partnerships, credential opportunities and a steady increase in Chapter 74 enrollment to about 1,360 students. The director said 75 vocational students participate in an early-college program and that the CVTE curricular work will realign to Massachusetts DESE CVTE frameworks with staff review and pacing-guide updates scheduled through June 2025.
Program highlights included career-connected experiences (job fairs, internships, apprenticeships), state and industry credentialing, reestablishing SkillsUSA, and events such as a tiny-house project and a women-in-the-trades summit. The CVTE report noted the importance of advisory boards and employer partnerships for keeping curriculum industry‑relevant and highlighted PD offerings for vocational staff (CPR/AD, mental-health workplace supports, framework updates).
Committee members complimented the CVTE’s employer relationships and credentials, and asked about nontraditional enrollment targets and certification logistics. The CVTE team said goals are aligned to Chapter 74 compliance and to boosting nontraditional pathway access through liaison outreach and classroom presentations.
