Staff warned of an expected wave of retirements—about 50 employees are eligible to retire over the next two years—and said additional training classes are being scheduled to reduce staffing gaps.
The sheriff (operations) described November activities including deputy support for Greenwood Lake wildfire response (24-hour deputy presence at the command post, UTV/ATV units and traffic control), a school lifesaving after a student choked during a TikTok challenge (school nurse and deputies provided lifesaving care), and collaborative Stop DWI enforcement with municipal police departments including Middletown and Wallkill.
No formal committee actions were taken on these operational reports; the meeting adjourned after the sheriff's presentation.
