Orange County to accept $1.611 million for discovery-management software

The Orange County Public Safety and Emergency Safeties Committee voted unanimously Dec. 12 to accept $1,611,070 from the Department of Criminal Justice Services to support county prosecution and local police agencies in implementing discovery and bail reforms.
District Attorney (speaking as the DA's office representative) told the committee the funds will pay for NICE prosecution software, associated licenses and specialty equipment to integrate municipal police agencies and the district attorney's records into a single record-management environment. He said the system will replace the county's current impact system and will enable searchable captions for body-worn camera footage, automated redaction and other features that aid case review.
The DA urged quick approval, saying procurement must occur within about 90 days to secure current pricing. He noted that jurisdictions including multiple New York City district attorney offices and legal-aid providers are moving to the same platform.
Why it matters: County officials said the system will streamline evidence retrieval across agencies, reduce manual work and improve prosecutors' access to body-camera and other digital material in criminal cases. The DA also warned the price will rise if the county delays procurement.
The committee approved the grant acceptance by voice vote. The record shows the motion passed unanimously.
