Staff emphasized that per‑customer cost impacts will likely be a fraction of earlier estimates, but final figures will depend on DC input and bids.
The committee also reviewed an ultrasonic water meter installation in Romulus that was not installed to manufacturer specifications: insufficient straight‑run pipe created flow disturbances and the meter‑house building was undersized. Staff proposed an in‑house solution involving a custom wooden shelter estimated at roughly $10,000–$11,000 (versus a metal hot box at $35,000–$38,000) and additional in‑house remediation of piping so the meter will read accurately. The committee asked staff to return with more detailed steps at the next meeting.
Committee members celebrated the grant awards and said the next actions will focus on ensuring projects are ready to bid and do not require returning grant funds.
