The city clerk said the Traffic Commission, established in 2019 following a pedestrian fatality, is no longer needed because police and engineering have developed effective procedures to address neighborhood traffic concerns; staff recommended those duties remain with departments so resident volunteers can be redeployed to boards with steady actionable items.
Following order, council suspended rules to consider other business and approved a motion (unanimous voice votes) to close city offices on Tuesday, Dec. 24, with supervisors ensuring coverage for essential services as needed. Councilmembers used the opportunity to thank staff for their service during the year.
The ordinance will return for future readings as required by council rules prior to final adoption.
