Longtime New Canaan wetlands chair steps down; Angela Jamieson elected chair

Dan Stepanek announced at the Inland Wetlands Commission meeting on Dec. 16 that he is resigning as chair of the commission effective immediately, saying he has served since January 2007 and that it is time to give another member the opportunity to serve. "I am resigning my role as chairman of the Wetlands Commission as of tonight's meeting," he said, adding that his tenure had been "educational, challenging and thought provoking."
First Selectman Carlson presided over the organizational portion of the meeting and asked for nominations for chair. Commissioner [Angela] Jamieson was nominated and Carlson said the vote appeared unanimous. Jamieson thanked colleagues after the vote. The commission then nominated Sandy Redden as secretary; the motion passed unanimously.
A fellow commissioner moved a formal expression of thanks to Stepanek, praising his fairness, patience and mentorship during 18 years of service. Stepanek said he will remain a commission member. The exchange closed the reorganization portion of the meeting and the commission resumed its regular agenda.
The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2025; Jamieson will chair future meetings pending any intervening changes.
