Superintendent spotlights grants, student honors and long-time staff retirement

The superintendent reported that the L'Anse Creuse Foundation awarded $16,431.36 in grants to 13 recipients this year, distributing the awards by surprising winners in their classrooms. He also saluted two students selected for Michigan School Band and Orchestra All-State performances and multiple athletes who qualified for state finals.
In personnel news, the superintendent announced that Nikki Trask, executive assistant in the superintendent’s office, is retiring after nearly 30 years of service. The superintendent praised Trask’s institutional knowledge and mentorship, asking the board and community to join in appreciation.
Curriculum staff also noted that an early childhood teacher won a $50,000 School Makeover Sweepstakes; roughly $30,000 of that prize will go to furniture for a before/after-care room and about $12,000 for materials and a sensory wall for the building’s main lobby.
Those items were delivered as part of the broader board meeting; no separate motions were required for the recognitions and announcements.
