Teacher says HR posted her job while she was on medical leave; district later told her no interviews planned

During the public-comment portion of the Dec. 16 meeting, Shannon Pippa, a Wayne Memorial teacher for more than two decades, told trustees she was "devastated to discover that people in the HR department decided to post my job while I am out on a medical leave fighting pancreatic cancer." She said she was later notified that the district does not intend to interview for or fill the position at this time.
Pippa described a long career in room 212 at Wayne Memorial and said she appreciated the union and community support she had received after learning about the posting. She urged the board to prevent similar experiences for other employees on medical leave.
The board did not take immediate formal action during the meeting; Pippa said the district told her the posting would not proceed to interviews. Trustees and staff acknowledged her remarks and expressed support.
