Meeting roundup: council adopts election canvas, approves flood-mitigation property purchase, traffic study request and CO2-alliance support

At its Dec. 19 meeting the Livingston Parish Council read and adopted the election canvas for a Dec. 7 special election, approved Ordinance 2437 (acquisition under Flood Mitigation Assistance), adopted resolutions requesting a DOTD traffic study and supporting the Louisiana CO2 Alliance, and confirmed a library board appointment.
The Livingston Parish Council handled several routine and policy items during its Dec. 19 meeting in Livingston Council Chambers.
Election canvas: The clerk read the canvas of votes from the Dec. 7 special election on whether to amend the Livingston Parish Home Rule Charter to authorize the council to engage legal counsel; the reading showed 2,641 votes in favor and 5,955 against. The council adopted a resolution to canvass and declare the results.
Ordinance 2437: Council read and adopted proposed Ordinance 2437 to acquire movable property at 7597 Denham Drive under the Flood Mitigation Assistance program (project EMt2022FM-003003); no public comment was received and the motion carried unanimously.
Traffic study: Council adopted a resolution to request a DOTD traffic study on the curve at Brown Road and Juban Road; motion by Sandifer, seconded and approved unanimously.
CO2 Alliance: Council unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the Louisiana CO2 Alliance, a collaborative effort among parishes to address CO2 injection projects and advocate protective legislation.
Library board: Council accepted the resignation of long-serving library board member Cathy DeGeneres and appointed Jennifer Dorhauer to the Livingston Parish Library Board of Control; the appointment carried on a unanimous vote.
Other business: Council moved the Feb. meeting from Feb. 13 to Feb. 6; a short candidate presentation and committee reports closed out the meeting before adjournment.
