Richland County Council used its Dec. 17 zoning public hearing to move several agenda items and to act on a series of rezoning requests.
Councilwoman Gretchen Baron told the council she would defer multiple items to honor her district practice of holding town halls; she moved to defer items (announced as items 14, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 for the public hearing portions) until February 2025. The motion was seconded and approved by the council.
The council then considered several individual map amendments. Case 24-033MA (John Conroy Lunan, general commercial to residential for Raven Road, TMS r17116-01-09) and Case 24-035MA (Robert Christopher Lee, general commercial to residential for 511 Ross Road, TMS r17107-03-03) were opened for public hearing; no speakers had registered for either site and both were approved by council motion. For Case 24-035MA the transcript shows planning commission recommended approval while staff recommended disapproval; the council voted in favor of approval nonetheless.
Later in the agenda the council addressed Case 24-046MA (Todd P. Corley, light industrial to heavy industrial, Wessinger Road, TMS r12002-07 and -08). Councilwoman Baron stated she had concerns about the property after town-hall review and moved to deny the rezoning. The motion to deny was seconded and approved.
