Officials warn of heightened wildfire risk in Nueces County; commissioners urged to adopt emergency tools
Summary
National Weather Service, emergency management and fire chiefs told commissioners that moderate to severe drought, high temperatures and large fuel loads are creating an unusually dangerous wildfire season; chiefs urged declarations to access federal/state reimbursement and supplies.

In a briefing, Melissa Maguilla, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said: “Moderate to severe drought is occurring across Nueces County” and that above‑normal temperatures and below‑normal precipitation are forecast for April through June — conditions that increase wildfire danger.
