Irving Schools Foundation seeks volunteers and donations for Supplies for Success; report shows high need among students

Crystal Scagno, president and CEO of the Irving Schools Foundation, told CitySource the foundation's 20th annual Supplies for Success program is returning to an in-person distribution after COVID-era drive-through events. Scagno said the program expects about 6,000 children to receive backpacks during the invite-only event and that the foundation collects both school supplies and financial donations to cover bulk purchases and to stock a C2C store for teachers.
She said volunteers are essential (the foundation typically uses more than 200 volunteers during the collection and distribution period) and encouraged donors to leave new and gently used supplies at fire stations throughout June and July or to visit irvingschoolsfoundation.org for details. Scagno said extras are often distributed to schools to be made available at meet-the-teacher nights.
CitySource also noted figures from the foundation's annual report: "86% of families in Irving ISD are economically disadvantaged," a statistic Scagno described as a continuing challenge the foundation seeks to address through resource distribution and school partnerships.
The segment clarified that the distribution is invite-only because of volume; families without direct invites are advised to contact school counselors who can request extras for distribution.
