DOTD: truss foundation in place, Amazon‑funded turn lane is operational; signage still pending

A Louisiana Department of Transportation representative updated the council that foundation work for an overhead truss at the 70th Street interchange is complete and the truss has been ordered.
The DOTD representative said the new turn lane is open and that the signal head in the outside lane was changed to a directional arrow with a straight‑only sign beneath it; "Foundation has been put in, and the truss is on order," the representative reported. He explained that a flashing yellow arrow allows drivers to turn if there is no oncoming traffic but does not provide protected right‑of‑way the way a green arrow does.
Council members raised safety concerns about driver confusion and asked when overhead signage would be installed. City and DOTD staff said Amazon paid for the project and that the design was reviewed and approved by DOTD; signage remained pending and staff promised to follow up on installation timing.
Council members asked DOTD to prioritize installation of the directional signage and communications so drivers adapt to the new lane configuration.
