The Public Works Utilities Committee approved several routine but operationally important items and heard department updates affecting near‑term public works operations.
Tim Keane presented a letter to the state DOT offering that the city will maintain Bluestone and granite curb and a driveway apron at Charleston Place on Meeting Street; the committee moved and approved the acceptance and dedication of rights‑of‑way. Matt Fountain described a permanent stormwater easement and temporary construction easement for properties at Crosstown Christian Church in Church Creek to support canal reconnection and wetland improvements under a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant; the committee voted to accept those easements.
Keane also noted a packet of 10 standard encroachments permitted over the past 30 days; staff presented this list for information only. Separately, the Public Service Director reported that newly purchased 'big belly' trash receptacles will be installed the second week of January, ADA ramps in West Edge are complete, Chalmers Street repairs should be finished next week, a crosswalk is planned at Fort Johnson near Elliott's Cut Drive, and Christmas tree collection will run Jan. 6 through the week of Feb. 14.
Committee members took the routine votes needed to document easements and maintenance commitments; staff said encroachments are standard permitting actions and require no committee vote. The meeting moved on to additional stormwater and contract items after these approvals.
