The Charleston City Committee on Real Estate voted to approve a temporary lease with Verizon to place a portable cellular tower at Burbank Park during the Seaweed event, council member Waring said Dec. 16.
Council member Waring described the site as a roughly 45-by-45-foot area with an approximately 6-foot tower to improve mobile coverage in a known blind spot. "They will be paying us $25,100 to use this particular space in Burbank Park," Waring said. Committee members asked whether the installation would benefit only Verizon customers or multiple carriers; Waring said she would follow up to determine whether other carriers could use the installation.
The committee approved the lease by voice vote; the transcript records ayes and no oppositions but does not include a roll-call tally.
