The committee interviewed John (Arcadia neighborhood resident) and Rita Chandler (north-side resident and air-quality data analyst at the Institute of Public Scholarship) for one of two open ECC seats. John said his priorities include zoning updates, water quality and biodiversity; Rita said her focus is air quality and community outreach and confirmed she can attend the committee’s third-Wednesday meetings.
Committee members decided to delay a final vote until after a third applicant is interviewed next month so there will be more candidates for two upcoming openings; they noted the possibility of appointing non-voting participants in the interim. The chair explained that bylaw rules require ballots to elect officers and that ballots will be used at the January meeting; members discussed vice chair and chair vacancies and several members indicated willingness to serve in the short term.
The committee also reviewed attendance rules for members who miss meetings. After discussion, members said three absences trigger a case-by-case review that can result in removal or conversion to non-voting (associate) status; officers will evaluate individual circumstances and may recommend changes to bylaws later.
No formal appointments or officer elections were completed at this meeting; the committee expects to hold ballots and finalize appointments in January.
