Bay City honors longtime officials and hands out holiday lighting awards at final 2024 meeting

At the Dec. 16, 2024 meeting, the Bay City Commission presented winners of the annual holiday lighting contest and recognized departing and long-serving commissioners.
Commissioners announced residential and business winners across wards — for example, Tony Charles (First Ward), the Santa House (business grand prize) and Catherine Reham of 712 South Jackson (4th Ward). Grand-prize winners received $150 gift certificates toward their electric bills.
Mayor Jesse Dockett read a proclamation honoring Kathleen Newsom for 33 years of service as mayor and city commissioner and declared Newsom an honorary citizen. Newsom thanked commissioners, staff and residents and accepted the recognition. The commission also recognized Mayor Jesse Dockett for eight years of service on the commission.
Several outgoing commissioners offered brief farewell remarks and thanked staff and residents for the opportunity to serve. The tone of the presentations was celebratory and ceremonial; no formal policy action was tied to the recognitions.
The meeting then moved on to routine business, including adoption of the agenda and consent agenda items.
