The Farmington Hills City Council on Dec. 9 adopted Ordinance C-9-2024, a text amendment to Chapter 34 of the Farmington Hills Code that restates permitted and special approval uses for gas stations, car washes and auto-repair shops and clarifies standards for drive‑through windows.
Heather Shumult, director of planning and community development, presented the second reading and summary for publication and said the amendment follows multiple prior public hearings and planning commission reviews. A councilmember moved for enactment at second reading and the council took a roll-call vote; the motion carried as recorded in the meeting minutes.
Staff and council discussion at the second reading reaffirmed that the amendment is intended to update approval standards and provide clearer redevelopment criteria for the listed uses. The record notes prior public hearing on Nov. 25 and earlier review by the planning commission; Shumult responded to council questions during the Dec. 9 hearing.
The ordinance record (Ordinance C-9-2024) will be published per the summary read at the meeting and becomes part of the city’s zoning code. The meeting transcript shows a recorded roll-call vote; the ordinance was enacted at the Dec. 9 meeting.
