Westland Goodfellows honored as volunteers and sponsors recognized for serving about 400 children

Pro Tem Melissa Sampe and members of the Westland Goodfellows board presented a video recap and recognized sponsors and longtime volunteers during the council meeting. The volunteer‑run Goodfellows program, which organizers said has more than a 50‑ to 60‑year history in the city, distributed help and toys for approximately 400 children this season and raised about $61,000 in donations.

Sampe, who identified herself as co‑vice president of Westland Goodfellows and a city councilwoman, thanked the volunteers and listed sponsors that donated at various tiers, ranging from in‑kind contributors to donors of $10,000, $5,000 and smaller amounts. Organizers named the Wesleyan Police Department (noting their annual 'stuff a squad car' event), Meijer, DTE Energy, the Rotary Club, Eloise (a local property/organization referenced by speakers), and private donors including the Aldani Family Foundation among supporters. The presentation also acknowledged Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s office for coordinating adoptions of about 10 families.

Council formally honored the volunteers with a proclamation and thanked sponsors for helping provide food vouchers, gift cards and toys.
