WAUWATOSA — The Financial Affairs Committee voted to approve an amendment to the state municipal agreement for the Blue Mound Road repaving project, enabling replacement of the south-side sidewalk with a multiuse trail and shared rehabilitation of a bridge over Honey Creek.
Staff said the project — a joint effort with the city of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation — would extend off‑road bike accommodations east from the Hank Aaron State Trail and create a continuous multiuse connection to I‑41. "We're looking to replace the existing sidewalk on the south side of Blue Mound from Mayfair Road to 97th Street with a multiuse trail," staff said.
The DOT's overall project was described as approximately $8.9 million and the city's share for bridge work, paving and the multiuse trail is estimated at about $453,000; Milwaukee has agreed to pay half the trail replacement cost for the portion it owns. Staff said construction is not expected until about 2028, depending on DOT scheduling.
Committee members moved and approved the amendment; the chair recorded the vote and the item passed 6–0.
Staff said the agreement also identifies maintenance needs for a bridge on Blue Mound Road over Honey Creek and that the city and Milwaukee will share the maintenance cost.
