Staff outlines construction and park updates: restrooms, Ninja Warrior fundraising, sidewalks and winter events

Several staff provided operational and capital-project updates at the Dec. 11 Meridian Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
Mike (staff) said foundations have been poured for new restroom buildings and crews will install plumbing; one building is scheduled to be set later in the week and a second is pending an ACHD permit to close Tullamore for setting. Two additional restroom buildings were ordered and were expected to be set in June, pending approvals.
Mike also said the department is working on a small block of downtown sidewalks and is engaged with a group raising funds for a permanent Ninja Warrior course at Discovery Park. “They’ve raised over $165,000,” he said; staff plan to return with a formal proposal and possible matching-fund requests.
Kim (staff) reported that the Pathways Master Plan scope has been adjusted to better fit Meridian’s needs; consultant engagement will resume early in the new year. Kim added that permission from ACHD for a trailhead restroom has been slow and staff may need additional assistance to secure approvals.
Director Sidaway reported that staff raised funds to provide Christmas gifts for 68 Head Start children and volunteers will wrap and deliver the gifts next week. He also promoted the Children’s Winterland Festival at Home Court (Saturday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.) and noted events and parade participation by commissioners.
No formal action was required on these staff reports; staff said they would return with project updates and formal requests as needed.
