Fremont told commissioners the dollar amount in the revised submittal remains unchanged but the schedule would slip if work begins in December; she also noted a staff change at JUB (Marika Panagiotou replaced by Alex Jones).
Commissioners discussed the plan—s relationship to other preservation priorities, including a possible future landmarking program and priorities the mayor and city council have indicated they do not want to use to hinder development. Commissioner Fries moved approval of the proposal and Commissioner Gaitings seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
The commission also reviewed the project—s funding context. Chair reported the Meridian Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) has a FY2025 consulting budget of $10,030 and expects a SHPO match tied to the preservation-plan effort (the commission discussed a $55,100 SHPO grant match in the meeting). That combination left roughly $45,130 available for other projects this fiscal year, the chair said.
Next steps: staff will complete the contract with JUB Engineers and work with the consultant to refine task-level assumptions, deliverables and schedule before work begins. The commission scheduled follow-up budget and project-prioritization discussion for its January meeting.
