Margaret Shelton, introduced at the meeting as the Police Commission’s new township liaison, told commissioners she has been monitoring a DTE battery‑storage facility proposed across from the island and said a DTE representative has contacted the township. Shelton said township supervisors Derek Thiele and Joe Porcirrelli will meet the representative and will bring the topic to a township board meeting where the public can ask questions.
Shelton described battery storage as a topic she has been monitoring and said both public‑safety teams are aware of the project. She asked that the issue be publicly discussed at a future township meeting so residents can raise questions and learn more about potential impacts.
Shelton also said the township will begin a forensic audit and that budget and fiscal responsibility will be a priority. She indicated she will support the township’s effort to make the department’s work and budget more visible to the public.
No formal action on the DTE project or the audit was taken at the police commission meeting; supervisors will meet the DTE representative and the subject will appear at a future township board meeting with public comment opportunities.
