Jane Erdenberger elected board president; Kimera Snipes elected vice president

The Omaha Public Schools Board of Education elected Jane Erdenberger as its president and Kimera Snipes as vice president during Wednesday’s meeting following secret-ballot votes.
Per board policy 8130, nominations were taken for president. Shavona Homan was nominated but declined; Jane Erdenberger accepted a nomination and several members offered brief remarks in support. Ballots were collected and, according to the meeting tally announced by the secretary, Jane Erdenberger received six votes, one ballot was cast for Ricky Smith, and one ballot was blank. ‘‘Jane Erdenberger will be our new president,’’ the board announced after the count.
As the new president assumed the chair, nominations for vice president proceeded. Kimera Snipes was the principal nominee; tabulation showed five votes for Snipes and three blanks. The board announced that Kimera Snipes would serve as vice president.
Earlier in the meeting the board voted unanimously on a motion to enter closed session to discuss real estate and receive legal advice with the superintendent, secretary to the board, chief of staff and legal counsel; the board entered closed session at 6:48 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:20 p.m.
The meeting adjourned shortly after the officer elections.
