Council members publicly congratulated Guzman during a round of remarks. Several members emphasized the symbolic importance of Guzman’s election: Guzman said she will "wear the badge very, very proudly to be the first Hispanic on city council" and called the victory an honor she hopes to leave as a legacy for her children and other young people in the community.
The mayor noted the day’s significance and invited Guzman to serve in several ex officio roles. Under the consent agenda passed earlier in the meeting, Guzman will serve as the council’s ex officio representative to the housing authority, Keep Hall Beautiful/Hall County Green Alliance, and the Park and Recreation Foundation.
