Blackstone begins Munis invoice entry and automated payroll; staff says system will save hours

The Town of Blackstone has started a two-part financial modernization effort: departmental invoice entry into Munis and a phased rollout of automated payroll. Town staff told the Board of Selectmen Nov. 12 that invoice entry has been live for about two weeks and that departments have adapted quickly, with only a minor IT issue being worked through with vendors.
The town also is installing new time clocks and will run parallel payroll tests for two to three weeks before wider rollout. Staff estimated the automated payroll system will save "at least 4 to 5 hours biweekly" for the collector/treasurer's office by eliminating manual Excel entry and reducing error corrections, though administrators will still verify entries before finalizing payroll.
Town staff framed the changes as operational efficiencies that free staff time for other priorities; they cautioned the public these measures are intended to reallocate work rather than eliminate positions.
What’s next: testing of the new time clocks will continue and the town will expand implementation to additional departments in phases, holding off on public-safety staffing until after the initial rollout.
