Blackstone Senior Center introduces new activity director who plans nutrition and trip expansions

Kim Coffey, the Town of Blackstone Senior Center’s new activity and nutrition coordinator, introduced herself at the Council on Aging meeting Nov. 7 and outlined plans to expand the center’s food and activities programs. "I'm Kim Coffey. I just got hired the last day of September," she said, describing nearly three years of work in activities at Alliance Health at Maples and experience preparing meals for groups of 40 to 100 from a small kitchen.
Coffey said she hopes to bring food service in-house to support the center’s nutrition goals and to expand day trips and events. "It's my hope to bring food in house and expand the nutrition program," she said, while adding she is "always open to suggestions." Board members asked about the transition from nursing-home activity work to the senior-center environment; Coffey said her prior work with younger groups made it "easy to find the middle" and that "the seniors here have been great with me."
The introduction preceded a broader director’s report that included details on new daily fitness classes, a 'Soup to Nuts' Monday program combining soup and guest speakers, and plans for raised garden beds tied to the nutrition program. The council confirmed Coffey will work with staff and volunteers on program logistics and continuing outreach.
The meeting did not produce a formal vote related to Coffey’s hiring; the board approved minutes of the previous meeting and adjourned after discussing upcoming events and fundraising plans. The council is scheduled to meet again on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m.
