Macomb trustees approve hires, contracts and reappointments in winter meeting

At its Dec. 18 meeting, the Macomb Township Board approved a set of routine but consequential administrative and capital items.
Property transfer: The board authorized the supervisor to sign a quick claim deed transferring part of parcel 0810100002 to Broughton Road Development LLC to satisfy a 2019 settlement and secure developer‑funded amenities including an entrance feature, townhouse units, on‑street parking, a pedestrian pathway and a pocket park. The motion to authorize the supervisor to sign the deed passed unanimously.
Hires: Supervisor Tabaka recommended hiring Allison Diehl as an engineer (start date targeted Jan. 13, 2025) after interviewing more than 30 applicants; the board approved the hire unanimously. The board also approved hiring William Schroeder as a DPW utility worker (start date targeted Jan. 6, 2025). Both positions were budgeted.
Contracts and procurement: The board approved awarding the Township Hall Basement Build‑Out Phase 2 construction to Orleans Construction ($200,279) and furniture to Office Express ($49,516.67). Separately, staff recommended continuing a planning and zoning consulting contract with Carlisle/Wortman (with a new, smaller retainer reportedly $1,000/month), and the board voted to award the consulting services contract as presented.
Emergency repair and tax bill vendor: The board approved an emergency repair to Fire Engine 1 at Cummins Sales and Service for $12,665.92, and extended the current Lasercom contract for printing and mailing the 2025 tax bills at the same pricing as previous years.
Appointments: The board confirmed multiple reappointments (James Conlon, David Piper, Kathy Smith, Richard Marley, Paul Mazara, Robert DeBruhn, and Melissa Fostich as alternate) and appointed Terry Cole to the Ethics Committee. Most were approved unanimously.
These actions advance multiple capital projects and staffing plans ahead of the new year; staff indicated they will follow up with schedule and onboarding details as appropriate.
