Selectmen approve election warrant, cash policy, permits and appointments; set special town meeting for Dec. 3

At its Oct. 22 meeting the Board of Selectmen approved a series of routine but administratively important items.
The board unanimously signed the warrant for the Nov. 5, 2024 state election after the town clerk reported robust early voting turnout. The board also opened a special town meeting warrant and then closed it for now; the special town meeting is scheduled for Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and will include three articles to provide funding for contracts involving the DPW, clerical positions and public-safety dispatchers.
On policy votes, the board adopted a cash-handling and turnover policy after discussion and a motion by Selectman Sweeney (seconded by Selectman Polak). The board also moved a draft Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) policy into the impact-bargaining process; Selectman Pulak moved the draft for approval and Selectman Sweeney seconded.
Appointments and licenses included a unanimous appointment of Jillian Sullivan to the Cultural Council (term to June 30, 2026) and approval of an entertainment permit and a one-day liquor license for a Boys & Girls Club fundraiser at 115 Canal Street. The board approved payroll warrants and other warrants by recorded 'ayes.'
What happens next: The town will post the special town meeting warrant in advance of the Dec. 3 meeting; the FMLA policy will enter impact bargaining with town unions; other administrative items will be processed through town staff.
