The Town of Blackstone selectmen voted unanimously Oct. 8 to accept community donations to support park improvements.
Town Administrator Chad Lovett reported an offered $1,000 donation from the Blackstone Millville Youth Basketball League to purchase four basketball backboards and hoops for Roosevelt Park and a delivered $1,500 check from the Friends of Blackstone Parks & Rec to buy 10–12 trees at Turbisi Park. Selectmen moved and seconded a motion to accept both gifts during the meeting; the vote was unanimous.
Board members thanked both groups for their donations and noted the contributions will be used to complement recent playground, pavilion and basketball‐court resurfacing work. Selectmen discussed minor follow‑up items, including painting or cleaning existing posts and coordinating with Parks & Rec for installation timing.
Quote: "I'd like to thank BMYBL for their generous donation for the backboards as well as the Friends of Blackstone Parks and Recs for their generous donation for the trees," a selectman said during the vote.
Next steps: Staff will coordinate installation with Parks & Rec and incorporate the gifts into town procurement or installation schedules.
