Parks & Rec outlines fall events, playground fixes and ARPA spending ideas

Key upcoming events include a Town Hall Halloween event on Oct. 29 (4:30–7 p.m.), a Fall Festival Oct. 5 with the Black Alliance and the fire department (park activities 11 a.m.–4 p.m.; fire open house 2–6 p.m.), a veterans breakfast on Nov. 10 with Divine Mercy, the customary tree lighting on Dec. 1 at the Town Common, and a hometown Christmas/Santa parade tentatively set for Dec. 14 pending fire-department confirmation.
Commissioners reported progress on playground maintenance and repairs, noted some vandalism that DPW has addressed, and said new cameras at Roosevelt (recently activated and linked to the police) have improved oversight. The basketball courts will be paved Sept. 26–29 and expected to reopen on Sept. 29, with signs to notify the public.
Parks & Rec also raised a technical website issue after the department's prior domain/account was removed; staff said park pages will be served from the town website, with QR codes suggested for signage. Commissioners asked the board to consider spending any remaining ARPA funds (deadline Dec. 31) on covered trash enclosures or similar small improvements instead of additional benches, and requested quick cost estimates so purchases can be made if money remains late in the year.
The board thanked Parks & Rec for coordination and encouraged continued collaboration with DPW and administration to finalize site work and funding decisions.
