Parks board discusses maintenance backlog, ARPA funding and ADA planning; approves $800 for Fall Festival

Adam, the parks caretaker, reported that a previously approved truck‑mounted mower quote had increased; the updated price presented during the meeting was $6,941. Board members discussed alternatives and asked staff to seek additional quotes before final procurement. The board also discussed installing a French drain to address standing water at a neighborhood field and the possibility of tying a concession‑stand sink into existing bathroom plumbing to reduce installation costs.
Members reviewed the town’s ADA transition plan and an upcoming ADA feasibility study expected to inform any paving or path work paid for with ARPA funds. Chad Lovett and staff said roughly $65,000 remains available for park projects; board members suggested prioritizing accessible parking and targeted paving rather than full lot resurfacing. The board also noted plans to install security cameras at several parks after recent vandalism (graffiti on the trailer behind the bathroom) and asked police to monitor problem areas.
On budget items, the board voted to approve two vendor bills for park rentals and septic services and separately voted to allocate $800 to support the Fall Festival food and supplies (motion by Bob; seconded by Sarah). Board members said larger projects (ADA restrooms, full playground rebuilds) will require outside grants and further Select Board coordination.
