The Town of Blackstone Parks and Recreation board on Sept. 23 approved a BME PTO request to hold the Move‑A‑Thon on Oct. 2 from about 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of Oct. 3. The PTO also asked for a follow‑up May field‑day date in the spring; the board indicated it will process that closer to the event.
Jess Andreas of the BME PTO asked that irrigation be turned off the day before and the day of the Move‑A‑Thon so the grass would not be wet while children run. "This is our annual fundraiser… the PTO wants to help make that a success for the school," Andreas said. The PTO requested access to electricity at the concession stand for an inflatable obstacle course and to power a speaker; the board confirmed access to a lockbox code and bathroom key and approved the Oct. 2 date (motion by Sarah; seconded by Bob).
The board noted the request for the later May date will likely require a separate request closer to that event. Members also discussed the location for inflatables and safety measures such as matting over cords and keeping children away from irrigation heads. The board said the concession stand would be opened for the event and provided the contact protocol to obtain codes and keys.
