Selectmen set Dec. 3 special town meeting, greenlight Oct. 31 tax-title auction

The Board of Selectmen voted on Sept. 24 to call a special town meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024 at 7 p.m. (Blackstone-Millville Regional Sullivan Auditorium subject to district confirmation) to consider at least one contract and other warrant articles. Finance staff and administration had recommended a date that allowed sufficient time for tax recap and printing of tax bills; the board’s vote to call the Dec. 3 meeting was unanimous.
Separately, the collector/treasurer outlined a multi-phase effort to clear longstanding tax-title properties and return them to the tax roll. Staff described three groups of properties: those ready for auction, seven parcels with acreage irregularities for which land-court affidavits were recommended, and properties still in land court. After discussion of strategy for selling contiguous Blackstone Chicago subdivision lots, the board unanimously approved a motion to hold a tax-title auction on Oct. 31 at noon (venue to be determined; staff suggested the library if early voting required a different room). Collector/treasurer and administration said the goal is to put lots back on the tax rolls and stressed buyers must do due diligence on access and subdivision approvals.
Board members asked staff to coordinate logistics around early-voting schedules and posting deadlines for town meeting warrants. The motions to set the special town meeting and to hold the tax-title auction carried by voice vote with all members present.
