Playground signage, benches and fall events top Parks & Rec operational agenda

On Sept. 9 the Town of Blackstone Parks and Recreation board reviewed playground signage proofs, approved recognition bench logistics, and advanced event plans for the fall.
Signage: Staff presented a 4-foot‑wide by 3-foot‑high proof printed on half‑inch PVC. Members discussed wording, including language on no pets (with a consensus to allow service animals while discouraging pets), no food or drinks, and no smoking. The signs are estimated around $530 each plus artwork fees; staff said the project will stay under the previously discussed $1,300 sign allocation. Adam will pick up produced signs when ready.
Benches and granite posts: The board reviewed a vendor purchase order and a $2,400 bench cost; POs and W‑9s were required to complete payment when the bench is installed. Separately, the board approved a granite post purchase (four posts) after reviewing quotes.
Events and community programs: The board confirmed logistics for the townwide yard sale (Sept. 21/22), plans to post an interactive map of vendors on the town website, and discussed Fall Fest scheduled for Oct. 5 (rain date Oct. 6) with activities including food service, student volunteers and pumpkin distribution. Parks and Recreation will also use funds from concession and event proceeds to build a revolving account for future programming.
Playground surface/maintenance: Members flagged a few questionable spots in recently installed rubber surfacing and asked Adam to contact Ultiplay for repair-cost estimates and warranty coverage so repairs can be budgeted and addressed under warrantywhere eligible.
Next steps: staff will finalize sign verbiage, secure vendor paperwork for bench and posts, and return with warranty and delivery details for the rubber surface repairs and equipment.
