Blackstone commission seeks ADA transition plan update; CMRPC staff offered to assist

Members of the Town of Blackstone Disability Commission reviewed the town’s ADA transition plan and agreed to pursue an update with help from Central Mass Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC).
Commissioners said the plan had seen little change since 2011 (one member noted there may have been a 2017 iteration), and reported a recent walk-through of the Snet Trail and Charles Greenway with volunteers and CMRPC staff. A CMRPC mobility office staffer offered assistance to update the town’s transition plan through the regional office, and a commissioner said she would reach out to arrange that support.
The commission also reviewed recommendations it had submitted for the annual town meeting on May 28, 2024. Commissioners noted that a warrant article to update TTY devices across town facilities (police, fire, town hall, senior center) passed at town meeting and that the town appropriated funds. One member explained the appropriation could not be spent until the new fiscal year began (July 1), and they agreed to follow up with staff member Chad — who was on vacation — to confirm purchases and deployment.
Commissioners said updating the transition plan will help coordinate park and municipal accessibility projects, including planned connections to a municipal center feasibility study and other capital improvements.
