Cindy Crawford, president of the Blackstone Lions (43 Front Street), told the Parks & Recreation Board on Aug. 12 that the Lions plan a duck race at Velati Park on Aug. 31 and requested permission to sell ducks and hold the event. Crawford also described a fall festival/craft fair and said the Lions would manage vendor registrations; Parks & Recreation will operate activities, concessions and games and will not touch the Lions’ fundraising proceeds.
The board voted to approve the duck race and to let the Blackstone Lions handle the vendor portion of the fall festival slated for Oct. 5 (with nonprofit vendors admitted free). Board members discussed vendor fees ($30 per table was cited), hours (vendors to set up around 10 a.m. with races or activities around 11 a.m.) and asked Crawford to circulate vendor applications and point people to the Parks & Rec contact for coordination. The board noted Don abstained from the vote on the duck race due to a personal conflict noted in discussion.
Members emphasized that Parks & Rec will coordinate scheduling and logistics with the Lions and requested a list of previous vendors from staff to smooth planning. Crawford said she will post vendor information on the Lions’ Facebook page and provide contact information for sales.
