Commission hears dam repair updates and CPC application changes; adjourns for holidays

After closing the Pleasant Street RDA hearing, the Howard Conservation Commission moved through informational business and updates.
Conservation agent Carly reported that the Ellis Pond dam seal had been replaced, the structure is not leaking and the contractor will coordinate with the Department of Public Works on gate maintenance. Carly said Willepon Dam repair work is ongoing and currently at about 50% completion; contractors expect significant completion by Dec. 25.
Commissioner Catherine Walsh delivered the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) report. She said the town manager pulled four applications from CPC consideration (the two historical projects plus Shattuck Park wall restoration and Chapel Street Park construction design) and noted the CPC’s concern that some open‑space projects had limited community outreach. Walsh outlined other CPC items remaining in the queue, including a possible $175,000 concrete ADA ramp for Elliott Field and several historic preservation nominations and roof replacements.
Carly had no additional agent updates. Commissioners noted a well‑attended open house on the comprehensive plan and reminded the public about the forthcoming online survey. Chair and commissioners exchanged holiday greetings and the commission adjourned by unanimous voice roll call.
