The Norwood Board of Selectmen voted Dec. 17 to amend the town————————————medical-marijuana license fee so that operators holding qualifying medical licenses who also exercise a state-authorized recreational privilege will pay an additional $10,000 per year.
Mister Mizuko explained that the town had set a $10,000 annual fee for medical marijuana licenses years earlier and that a state law provision allows establishments licensed for medical marijuana prior to a cutoff date to operate recreationally. The board approved language that preserves the $10,000 medical fee and adds a $10,000 recreational surcharge that must be attached to the medical license; if a business were to be purely recreational (not permitted in Norwood), the total would be $20,000.
The change was approved as part of next year——————————'s licensing cycle; staff and town counsel worked with the applicant to finalize the amendment. Board members voted in favor without recorded opposition.
Next step: staff will update licensing materials and apply the amended fee structure in the 2025 licensing cycle.
