The Community Preservation Committee voted to extend the Oliver Mill Park grant to December 2025 and attached a condition requiring regular updates, the committee said during its Dec. 18 meeting.
Town staff had requested a two-year extension to allow time for bids and stonework on two bridges over Channel A and Channel B. Several committee members expressed reluctance to approve another two-year extension without closer oversight; one member moved to shorten the extension to one year and require quarterly updates from the project liaison. The motion passed unanimously.
Members cited prior pandemic-era delays, increased construction costs, permitting timelines (including Army Corps/engineering reviews) and the advantage of a dedicated town engineer overseeing the project as reasons for both caution and optimism that the remainder of the work can proceed.
Next steps: the project liaison will provide quarterly reports to the committee on permitting and procurement milestones; the committee will reassess at the end of the extended period.
