The Town of Babylon Zoning Board of Appeals on Nov. 21 approved three‑year renewals of previously granted sign variances for two Leon Petroleum BP stations.
Carish Luffman of High Point Engineering told the board application 24201 (Winding Street) sought to renew variances that allow an increase of the ID price ground sign height from 15 feet to 19 feet 6 inches, increase ID sign and price sign areas, reduce setbacks and permit two signs per pole. Luffman said a notice‑of‑violation had been issued but that the issues had been addressed; she submitted photos taken the same day for the record.
For application 24202 (Farmingdale), Cara Schleffman explained a similar renewal request, including approval to raise a sign to 20 feet 10 inches and other adjustments. Schleffman and the board discussed property maintenance; both representatives said the tenant and owner agreed to keep the sites clean.
With no public opposition, the board voted to approve each renewal for a three‑year period.
The approvals extend the previously authorized sign variances, subject to standard monitoring and the board's expectation that property maintenance issues be corrected.
