Council reschedules hearing, accepts OPEB update and gift, and approves appointments

At its Dec. 16 meeting the Marlborough City Council rescheduled a public hearing on a zoning map amendment for 1 Maple Terrace to Jan. 6, 2025, accepted an OPEB trust update and a $5,000 gift from the Cummings Foundation for recreation, set a public hearing for a utilities pole installation and approved multiple mayoral reappointments and routine filings.
The Marlborough City Council handled a package of routine and procedural items on Dec. 16, including rescheduling a zoning public hearing, accepting communications from the mayor, setting a utilities public hearing and approving mayoral reappointments.
Councilor Roby moved to reschedule the public hearing on a zoning map amendment for 1 Maple Terrace (Map 70, Parcel 274) to Jan. 6, 2025 at 8 p.m. after the council learned the matter had not been properly advertised; the motion carried and the clerk will advertise the hearing.
A communication from the mayor provided an OPEB (Other Post‑Employment Benefits) trust update; the council voted to accept and place that communication on file. The council also approved acceptance of a $5,000 gift from the Cummings Foundation for the recreation department to support families in need.
The council accepted a notification of 2025 meeting dates from the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project and set a public hearing for a petition by Massachusetts Electric and Verizon New England to install a joint pole on Farm Road; that hearing is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2025 and the petition carried with nine in favor, one abstention and one absent.
Several mayoral reappointments to boards and commissions were presented; some reappointments were approved outright while others were referred to personnel or committee review as required by council rules. The council also referred a rezoning petition for 36 Jefferson Street to Urban Affairs with a Planning Board hearing set for Jan. 27, 2025.
