Tanger Outlets seeks approval for Main Event entertainment center; board reserves decision pending county memo

Attorneys and consultants for Tanger Outlets asked the ZBA to approve two special permits that would bring a Main Event family entertainment center and a seasonal 'Christmasland' exhibit to the Deer Park outlet center.
Philip Butler (Forcelli, Deegan, Tarana) told the board Main Event would occupy roughly 46,000 square feet with indoor entertainment (bowling, laser tag, arcade) and a 475‑seat bar/restaurant; applicant estimated about 200 initial jobs, tapering to 150–170 when established (SEG 1327–1330). Angel Robinson of Main Event described operations as fully indoor and family oriented (SEG 1422–1431).
Wayne Mueller, the traffic engineer, said his firm’s parking and traffic analysis — reviewed by the town’s consultant — concluded the center provides more than ample parking for the retenanting and for the Christmasland seasonal attraction; the study cited roughly 4,828 spaces provided on the property vs. 4,131 required by code (SEG 1509–1513). Planning had granted a special exception for the bar/restaurant and attached conditions, which applicant representatives said they accepted.
Board members asked for a plot plan for the separate Christmasland location and confirmed that Main Event had agreed to planning conditions including limits on live entertainment and other use restrictions. The board closed the hearing and reserved decision, keeping the record open for the Suffolk County planning memo requested by the ZBA and noting the planning board’s prior approvals and conditions.
The board did not vote on final approval at this meeting and asked the applicant to provide requested materials to expedite a decision on Main Event separate from the seasonal use if possible.
