The Town of Babylon Planning Board on Dec. 16, 2024 heard a site-plan application from Kelly Windows (job 24-14a) proposing a 3,310-square-foot warehouse addition to an existing 15,000-square-foot single-story building and an enclosed storage yard behind the structure.
The applicant’s representative, Ishwar Kasuri, said the proposed addition would be non-heated, match the existing façade and be used solely for storage of window products. Kasuri told the board the client — present at the meeting — had reviewed the planning department’s Dec. 11 memorandum from Denise Graziano, the commissioner of planning and development, and reported no objections to the conditions, covenants and restrictions listed there.
Frank Palmer, general manager at Kelly Window Systems, said the company has occupied the building for more than 30 years and that moving outdoor material into inside storage would reduce theft and open production floor space. “We really need inside storage,” Palmer said, explaining the company had removed outdoor containers and tractor trailers to make room for an addition.
Board questions focused on site access, trash collection and parking. The applicant described driveway entrance improvements, two new handicap-accessible spaces in front, replacement of some west-side parking with paved asphalt, and installation of two dry wells to address stormwater. Kasuri told the board the project would require a parking variance because the number of required spaces is deficient as proposed.
No members of the public spoke on the application. The Chair called for a motion to close the hearing and reserve decision; the motion was made by Dan and seconded by Julianne. The board voted in favor and approved the resolution to close the hearing and reserve decision. The record remains open for written comments; the planning department can be contacted in person at Town Hall (hours 9 a.m.–4 p.m.), by phone at 631-957-3103 or by email at planningcomments@townofbabylon.com.
Next steps: the board reserved its decision to allow staff review of outstanding items and any written comments submitted to the record.
